ABOUT US
The Make It Happen Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization rooted in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. We exist to build a stronger, more connected community — by investing in the young people who will lead it.
Who we are
The Make It Happen Foundation, Inc. was built on a simple but powerful belief: that every young person in the U.S. Virgin Islands deserves access to the tools, mentors, and opportunities that set them up for life — not just school.
We are a community-first organization. That means our programs aren't designed behind a desk — they're designed alongside the people we serve. Mentorship. Life skills. Leadership development. Community outreach. Media and storytelling. These aren't separate initiatives. They're one connected effort to change what's possible for USVI youth.
Our work is powered by volunteers, donors, partners, and community members who believe the same thing we do: that when a community invests in its young people, everyone rises.
"We're not just shaping futures — we're building them. One goal, one person, one moment at a time."
OUR MISSION
To inspire and empower youth and young adults across the U.S. Virgin Islands — equipping them with the life skills, confidence, and community support they need to build meaningful, successful futures.
OUR VISION
A U.S. Virgin Islands where every young person — regardless of background or circumstance — has the opportunity to discover their potential, develop their gifts, and contribute to a thriving, connected community.
Our Values

Empowerment
We believe young people already have what it takes. Our job is to make sure nothing stands in their way.

Growth
We invest in the whole person — their confidence, their character, and their capacity to lead.

Strength
Life in any community has its challenges. We help young people who are ready to face theirs.

Community
Everything we do comes back to this: a USVI where people show up for each other, generation after generation.
Meet Our Founder
Nykole Tyson didn't wait to be discovered. She built the platform herself — and then used it to lift others.
A St. Croix native with a Bachelor's in Mass Communication from William McDaniel College, Nykole spent her early career in front of and behind the camera at some of the biggest names in media — BET Weekend Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, CBS-TV2, and Caribbean Television Network TEMPO. She also freelanced for Maryland Public Television and Virgin Islands Public Television, earning a reputation as a storyteller who knew how to connect with an audience.
Her commitment to community extended well beyond the screen. Nykole served for eight years as Director of Communications and Researcher for a U.S. Virgin Islands senator, helping shape key legislation. Later, as Territorial Director of Public Relations for the USVI Department of Health, her public communication work earned recognition from the CDC — featured on the CDC's official public health blog.
The Make It Happen Foundation, Inc. is Nykole's most personal investment. Since 2009, she has mentored students across the Virgin Islands. The foundation is the formalization of that calling — a structured, community-driven effort to give the next generation everything it needs to rise.
"Don't wait for someone to discover you. Discover your own self."— Nykole Tyson
